Khorne Daemonkin vs. Imperial Guard

First game for 4-5 weeks up against a massive pile of Dave's Imperial Guard armour and Plasma gun infantry.  He had some quite nasty barrage weaponry that threw out an impressive amount of hits each round 40+ most turns, no Psykers though which was nice.

Simple plan Flesh Hounds go in front to screen everyone else and the whole force just rushes up (less one Tactical Squad who hung back to guard my home objective)
Imperial Guard disembark and then start blasting away at the Flesh Hounds.  An entire armies worth of shooting from infantry and vehicles sees 1 Rhino destroyed, 2 damaged, 1 unit of Flesh Hounds killed and the other with 1 Hound left.  My key units are all unharmed though
The calm before the storm as the Imperial Guard unleash a ton of shooting.
My turn now - CSM disembark and open fire on the Imperial Guard to soften them up and then the Lord, Bloodcrushers and Maulerfiend go charging in.  Result a lot of very very dead Imperial Guard and the Blood Tithe points are building up
CSM have all jumped out - one Rhino is wrecked, 2 one of which is Immobilised are down to 1 HP and the CSM are out in the open where they are going to get shot at for at least one turn.
Imperial Guard shooting pours on but is extremely ineffective particularly as the Blood Tithe has allowed me to give my entire force Feel No Pain.  The Hounds, Bloodcrushers and Maulerfiend are all dead but the Lord is busily hacking Imperial Guard to bits.  I also have Bloodletters dropping onto the board behind the Imperial Armour.
Meanwhile in back play - this is near Turn 6 - the sole surviving Imperial Guard squad make a late play for my home objective.  3 Flamers plus supporting fire from two Transports make quick work of the CSM Tactical Squad
Blood for the Blood God - Imperial Guard infantry are all dead as are most of the Imperial armoured vehicles.  CSM took out one Vehicle and the Infantry while the Chaos Lord has wrecked two tanks, and is now making short work of the Barrage things (Wyverns?)

Meanwhile in back play Bloodletters drop onto the board behind the other Imperial and proceed to wreck it all in quick succession.
Blood for the Blood God and Glory to Lorgar!!!
Fun game that Imperial Guard formation pumped out a ton of shooting.  Really enjoyed my list think I'll have fun with it at Warpstorm, although it will get out maneuvered by a lot of lists.  If I can build an paint it in time I might drop the Bloodcrushers for a 2nd Maulerfiend because you know why the hell not.  Killing lots of stuff regularly kept the Tithe points buffed up and I had the bonuses rolling in quite regularly - Turn 2 FNP, Turn 3 FNP, Turn 4 Insatiable Bloodlust, Turn 5 FNP, and Turn 6 FNP.  The game did go into Turn 7 and in the end there wasn't much left on the board all but 1 of the Imperial vehicles were dead and there was just a single Imperial Guard squad left alive vs. 3 squads of CSM (2 below 1/2 strength), my Lord and a unit of Bloodletters.

Khorne Daemonkin Tournament List & Traitors Hate

Finally back into gaming after 4 weeks away getting ready for the last 40k event (for me) of the year Warpstorm in October.  Standard 1750pt format with some restrictions that make for interesting army selection choices.  Played with a lot of options but decided to go with a fun fluffyish list based around units I like and which suits my rather "lets go up the middle without a plan" play style.

Khorne Daemonkin CAD
HQ
Chaos Lord
w. Juggarnaut, Sigil of Corruption, Blood Forged Armour, Collar of Khorne, Axe of Khorne, Power Fist

Set up gives him a T5 W4 3+/4++/FNP, Eternal Warrior and +2 to Deny the Witch which should help keep him alive. Pricey at 265 points so roughly the same as a BT but while I love those models I'm not impressed with them on the table top.

Troops
2 units of Bloodletters
4 units of CSM - Melta, Rhino, Havoc Launchers

Elite
1 unit of Bloodcrushers

Fast Attack
2 units of 10 Flesh Hounds

Heavy Support
Maulerfiend - Magma Cutters

The Maulerfiend's a new addition could take two as my wife brought me another one in the UK but I won't have it assembled and painted in time so buffed out the Hounds to units of 10 instead. Massive absence of attacks especially shooting above S7/8.  But I have 10 objective secured units counting the Rhinos so my aim is to win games by going for scenario points.

Also secured Traitors Hate this week. Enjoyed the fluff and its good to see CSM get some attention My overall impression is that while some of the formations in the book are good the majority don't work as they are still based on a core Codex that is hopelessly out of date and in dire need of replacement.  Hopefully, hopefully the formations were written with a new CSM Codex in mind but I doubt it as many seem to mirror those in the recent Black Legion and Crimson Slaughter updates or various SM books.

There were a couple of interesting ones in there that I will try at some point just for fun but not for tournament play where multiple formation armies incur major scoring penalties.

Harlequin Skyweaver complete + WIP Voidweaver

Enjoying painting these guys enough to want to buy more of them not to game with but just to paint. Getting the pattern sorted out took a while but it worked fine in the end.  Cheated a little bit the black lines were done with a fine pen not a brush.  Unfortunately I snapped the weapon off the rear rider just as i finished him...

My favourite model out of the Troop unit

Lines on this one are painted hence why they are thicker
Also in the works is this guy...

Fun times playing Betrayal at Calth

After a few trail runs where my son and I got our heads around the rules we've slowly settled into playing BoC.  So far we've gone through the first 4 scenarios and had a little go at the last and largest one too.

The rules are fairly easy to follow more so if you've played 40k before.  Plusses are the clear victory conditions for each scenario, the games natural Balance and the turn limits for each scenario.

There is an option for simplifying the game if you like.  Turns are kept and limited by drawing command cards of set size at the start of each turn.  Once you have no more cards to draw the game ends sometimes in favour of one side other times a draw.

Bloodletters completed

Latest unit to be completed 10 Bloodletters, yellow tongues on these guys vs. blue and purple on my other units to help tell them apart.  Very quick paint job just sufficient to get them table top ready so base coat, wash, a light dry brush and they're all done.

Playing Betrayal at Calth

Not sure why its taken me this long to have a go at it but I sat down with my Son this afternoon to play the Betrayal at Calth board game.  We got through the first two scenarios and I found it to be a really easy game to pick up (even for a 7 year old) and a lot of fun to play. Definitely a good way to spend a rainy afternoon inside.  The only complication of course was that I painted all of my BoC models as Word Bearers, because you know Ultrasmurfs are loyalist scum after all.

2nd Harlequin Squad complete & Chaos WIP

Harlequin troops all done.  Really enjoyed painting these guys and might get some more as they're more appealing than Deathwatch right now.  Also made progress on re-basing & repainting the Chaos stuff I picked up recently.

WIP - Harlequin squad #2 & Jet Bike

Colours are fun, straight lines are difficult...
My table is my palette
In other news my lovely wife who has been overseas these last few weeks (still 1 to go) sent me a picture of a few little presents she's bringing home for me from the UK.  Happy days!!

1st Death Masque Harlequins finished

Completed first unit of 5 Harlequins tonight.  Quite enjoyable models to paint once you get used to the whole size issue, figure out what bits are which and try not to duplicate the diamond pattern thats made to look so easy on the GW tutorials.

Product Review: Litchfield Paint Station + More Khorne Daemonkin

Another acquisition from Scott's Kapiti Hobby Corner with the arrival today of a Litchfield + Fields Ltd Paint Station.  They're a local company also located in Kapiti and outside of their specialist architectural products they also make hobby related materials from Laser cut MDF including buildings.  The product I acquired was a new arrival to Scott's store a Paint Station.  They make a couple of different variations that cater for Tamiya, Vallejo, and GW size paint pots.

Kapiti Hobby Corner & Deathwatch WIP

Not a lot of progress with the painting of my Deathmasque models as I ran out of paint and have been doing nothing lately except mark student assignments; an activity that tends to suck your enthusiasm for most things out of you pretty quickly.

However, things are back on track now after a visit to the Paraparaumu Beach Pharmacy and Scott Bowmans new Hobby Corner.  Scott's a local gamer whose had a strong presence in the FOW and LoTR communities for some time, I had an absolute stunner of a FOW match against him at my last FOW tournament.  Anyway Scott took over the Kapiti pharmacy and then promptly added a Hobby Corner, which expanded into a Hobby wall and is now threatening to take over the whole Pharmacy (which it should).  He's stocking a wide range of manufacturers - Mantic, Warlord Games, GW, Army Painter, Vallejo, Perry Miniatures, Woodland Scenics, FFG and more - and is filling a large hole in the local gaming community which has suffered from an absence of hobby stores in recent years.  We do have a good GW set up in Wellington and a few other small niche retailers but thats it.

He's already getting great support from gamers up and down the country so I dropped by last week to re-stock my paint supplies.  A couple of hundred dollars later and I was finally able to base and undercoat my Deathwatch.  If your in the area drop by and see him or join the Facebook group as he is more than happy to start posting stuff out and has started a really good loyalty scheme for repeat customers.

My painting work for the next month or so...
I might have also acquired another box of Bloodletters while I was there, because you know you always need more.  So if your in the need for some gaming stuff drop by Kapiti or contact Scott through the stores Facebook page and he will hook you up.
